EXPLORER 8.8 REAR INSTALL

    I INSTALLED 8.8 EXPLORER TRACTION LOCK AXLE WHICH ARE STRONG 31 SPLINE LOCKERS WHICH FIT GREAT WHEN SHORTENED 2 15/16 ON LONG SIDE AND ANOTHER SHORT SIDE AXLE INSTALLED. THEY ALSO ARE DISC BRAKE ON 98 UP EXPLORERS AND SELL FOR $200-300 .CHECK AXLE CODE FOR L IN RATIO , 3L73 IN MY CASE.I SHORTENED WITH PIPE CUTTERS AND ALLIGNED WITH ANGLE IRON. PINION IS OFSET 3/4 INCH OFF CENTER, WORKS GREAT. COBRAJR 96 LSC 351 4 SPEED

    Did you check to see how much lighter it is???

    I DID NOT HAVE 9" TO COMPARE TO, I REPLACED 7.5 MUSTANG DIFF, BUT MAIN ISSUE WAS COST, JR

    That's using your noggin. I went with an Explorer (IRS) rear end as well, partially because of price, and also because it was stronger and more readily available than the T-bird and Mustang Cobra units many use. I especially like you low buck narrowing trick.
